Civics for All
Civics for All is made up of four parts: Civics for All Week, Soapbox, Participatory Budget, and the Seal of Civic Readiness. Together, these programs help students build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become active, engaged members of their school and community.
2026 Theme: "America 250: Voices Then and Voices Now"
Civics for All Week
March 8–12, 2027: Focuses on youth voice, student voter pre-registration/registration drives for students 16 and older.
Soapbox
SoapboxNYC is a public speaking experience that calls on students to speak out about issues that affect them and their communities. Students create and advocate for solutions to improve their schools, communities, and the lives of other young people.
Participatory Budget
One of the components of Civics for All's Partner School Program. PB is a student-driven, democratic budgeting process where school community members decide how to spend part of a budget on something to improve the school community. Students ages 11+ are eligible to vote.
Seal of Civic Readiness
A distinction on student diplomas that encourages civic knowledge and participation through experiential learning and the engagement of youth voice, leadership, and action. It lets employers and post-secondary institutions know that students have developed the competencies central to being an active member of a community and society. In addition to serving as a special endorsement on student diplomas, the Seal of Civic Readiness is a graduation pathway — meaning it can stand in for the fifth Regents exam for a Regents or Local diploma.
Our Voice Made an Impact 🎉
In the 2026 Participatory Budget Voting, I.S. 126 put forward a bid for auditorium audio upgrades — and our community voted us into the win! We were awarded $250,000 to bring these upgrades to life.
